Mentoring Program: The Old Girl's Network

Everybody does ist - in business, politics, labor unions, and associations: mentoring, when experienced and established professionals user their influence and advice to individually promote an support young colleagues.

Our mentoring programm started in 2001. As is true of many other leagues and networks, the poroportion of free-lance tor permanently employed members is rising. As such, we concentrate less on preparing newcomers to take over future management positions than on helping them to make a good start and acquire a secure "standing" in the profession. Mentoring between women, moreover, entails a new type of identification with succesful female figures, a process that we seek to encourage.

Our Objectives are

  • to support colleagues in their professional and personal development
  • to provide guidance to newcomers and those reentering the professional field
  • to counteract isolation
  • to expand and exploit the network's resources of experience and contacts
  • to build bridges between generations

The program generally lasts for a year. A selection prodcedure generates "tandems". The mentors and mentees are then introduced to each other and supervised throughout the duration of the program by experts in the mentoring process.
